Can I be a part-time student in my final semester?
Students must maintain their full-time student status during each academic session of the program or programs of study they complete and submit as part of their post-graduation work permit application. However, if a student meets all the eligibility requirements, with the exception of full-time status during their final academic session (that is, they have part-time status only in their final academic session), they are still considered eligible for the PGWP.
Can I take a leave from my studies/ drop a semester?
Students may be required or may wish to take leave from their studies while in Canada. For the purpose of assessing if a student is actively pursuing their studies, any leave taken from a program of studies in Canada should not exceed 150 days from the date the leave commenced and must be authorized by their DLI. The student must remain compliant with the conditions of their study permit. If the applicant took a period of leave that was authorized by their DLI at any time during their studies, they must include documentation proving the leave was authorized by the DLI with their PGWP application.
Are you authorized to work after submitting PGWP?
As per paragraph R186(w), graduates who apply for a work permit, such as a post-graduation work permit, before the expiry of their study permit are eligible to work full time without a work permit while waiting for a decision on their application (Implied Status/Maintained Status)
The student must cease working after being issued completion letter until applying for the post graduation work permit.
I need to leave Canada and my permanent resident card is expired. Can I return without a valid PR Card?
You need a valid permanent resident (PR) card to return to Canada by plane, train, bus or boat. If you know your card will expire when you’re travelling, renew it before you leave. Cards can not be renewed from outside Canada.
If you’re outside Canada and don’t have a valid PR card, you need a permanent resident travel document (PRTD) to return to Canada. You can only apply for a PRTD from outside Canada. If you try to return to Canada without a PR card or PRTD, you may not be able to take your flight, train, bus or boat to Canada.
How can I sponsor my parents/grandparents to become permanent residents?
If you want to sponsor your family members, you must submit an interest form online. Make sure you are eligible as a sponsor before you submit this form. You must wait until IRCC opens the portal each year. If you’re invited to apply for permanent residency application, IRCC will send an email to let you know.
If you’d like your parents and grandparents to come to Canada, they may be eligible to apply for a super visa which could let them stay in Canada for up to 5 years at a time and they can apply to extend their stay while in Canada by up to 2 years at a time.
