How to Use Our IELTS score to CLB Calculator?
It’s easy! Just follow these steps:
- Look at your IELTS score report.
- Pick your scores for Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking from the drop-down menus.
- Click the “Calculate CLB Level” button.
- See your CLB level appear like magic!
Remember, you need to enter scores for all four skills. If you leave one out, the calculator won’t work properly.
IELTS to CLB: The Basics
Here’s a simple way to understand the conversion:
- IELTS 8.5 and up: Usually CLB 9 (super advanced) Example: If you got IELTS 8.5 in Reading, that’s CLB 9 for Reading.
- IELTS 7.0 to 8.0: Around CLB 7-8 (pretty advanced) Example: An IELTS 7.5 in Speaking would be CLB 8 for Speaking.
- IELTS 5.0 to 6.5: About CLB 5-6 (intermediate) Example: If you scored IELTS 6.0 in Listening, that’s CLB 6 for Listening.
- IELTS 4.5 and below: CLB 4 or lower (beginner) Example: An IELTS 4.0 in Writing would be below CLB 4 for Writing.
Remember, each skill (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking) is converted separately. Your overall CLB is usually the lowest of these four CLB levels.
How does this IELTS to CLB Calculator Work?
Our calculator uses official rules to change IELTS scores into CLB levels. Here’s a bit more detail:
- For most levels, we simply match your IELTS score to the right CLB level.
- For higher scores (CLB 7 and up), we use a special rule. If three of your skills are at a higher level, your overall CLB might be higher too.
For example, if you have IELTS scores of 8, 8, 7.5, and 6.5, three of your scores are at CLB 8 or higher. Even though one score is lower, you might still get CLB 8 overall. This rule helps give a fairer picture of your English skills.
Questions People Often Ask
Do I need to take a CLB test?
Nope! Your IELTS scores are enough. Canada will use them to figure out your CLB. You don't need to take a separate CLB test.
How high should my CLB be?
It depends on the immigration program you're applying for. Most programs want at least CLB 7, but some might accept CLB 5 or 6. For example:
- Express Entry usually needs CLB 7 or higher
- Some Provincial Nominee Programs might accept CLB 5
- Certain jobs might require specific CLB levels
Is this calculator 100% accurate?
We try our best, but always check the official Canadian immigration website for the most up-to-date info. Immigration rules can change, so it's good to double-check.
Can I use other English tests for Canadian immigration?
Yes, Canada also accepts CELPIP (Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program) scores. But our calculator is just for IELTS scores.
